A recent study shows that the use of the OtoSim™ otoscopy simulator can improve diagnostic accuracy of ear pathologies. Two other studies demonstrate that a single teaching session with the OtoSim™ ear training simulator can improve diagnostic accuracy and confidence in performing ear exams. The studies tested residents in primary care and otolaryngology, as well as undergraduate medical students. Learn more:

OtoSim ear and eye simulators used in OSCE for medical students at University of Toronto

At the University of Toronto’s Medical School, at the end of their second year of a four-year training program, every medical student must pass an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) before proceeding to their clerkship year. That exam requires proof of competency in several clinical realms including the examination of the ear and eye.

In April 2015, University of Toronto’s (U of T) Lawrence S. Bloomberg Nurse Practitioner students had the opportunity to use the OtoSim 2™ and OphthoSim™ training and simulation systems.

These systems allowed students to gain confidence in their practical otoscopy and ophthalmoscopy skills in order to excel in the clinical environment.
